Lots has been happening recently with Decajazz.
We helped to raised £3500 for All Saint’s Church, Cranham when we played for their fundraiser under a gazebo in the pouring rain on the Mayday Bank Holiday Monday. The weather was terrible, but the Romford Recorder said we played “rousing tunes” and included a stunningly awful photo of us! The fayre was a really fun day, and the weather didn’t put people off too much, thankfully!
We also had a successful second evening at Moor Lane Church in Cranham for a Night of Entertainment. It has been nice to be invited back to venues which we enjoyed entertaining before. We were going to go back and play at The Romford Evangelical Free Church for an evening of Dinner and Dance, however, this was cancelled.
Because we have raised a lot of money through playing at charitable events the Coopers’ Company and Coborn School publicly thanked us for our efforts recently, for the band is predominantly Upper Sixths Students. It was nice to get some recognition for all the hard work we have put in to help raise awareness for various charities and charitable events.
This friday (1st June) we are “entertaining the troops” at the Royal British Legion in Hornchurch to raise money for the Hall Mead School Kenya Project, which is run by the charity Kids Alive. This is a very special charity and this evening is to raise awareness and raise money to be able to build a larger school when the pupils from Hall Mead arrive there in late July. The more money raised, the more funding for better equipment, more teachers and building materials. This trip is also to help the home for orphans already set up by the charity out in Kenya. This is an organic project, constantly growing, and we are glad to support it.
Sadly, the tickets are sold out and our next engagement may be with the Coopers’ School Concert series in early July. This evening will be recorded, as many of our performances are, however, we are not yet at liberty to reveal the name for this album, although it has been chosen!
We are still waiting for a copy of the recording made when we revisited Newham for a Fundraiser evening in late March. Apparently they have sent a cassette and we are still waiting for a digital C.D version. Also, in regards to listening to Decajazz here on the website, at the moment the files are offline permanently whilst our server is being repaired (Courtesy of Sam Weston) because they were so popular to listen and download that the server overloaded. However, they should be back online in the near future, and we are sorry for any inconvience caused.
We have new stand banners as well, it is notable to mention, which i think you may be able to see in the album cover picture of Decajazz; “The Belvedere Recordings”. You can thank Ginge for that!
We will hopefully be performing our last performance in the first week of September at the Belvedere Jazz Club, though as far as i know, this is still unconfirmed.
If there is anything we have missed out etc please do not hesitate to comment or contact us.
